About Christening Dress:
I found this corner cabinet in Woodbury, CT and installed it in our dining room where it stayed for many months while I tried to decide how to use it in a painting. Then one afternoon we went to an antique show on the Madison green where Maryann bought this dress. When we got back home a friend who was with us casually hung it on the cupboard door just as you see it in the painting. I took one look at it and realized that my problem was solved. It has subsequently become one of the most popular pictures I ever painted.
An early trompe which has very special significance for me. I submitted it to an art show at The Berkshire Museum in Western Massachusetts. It won a prize which was always a thrill, but this one was extra special because the judge was Norman Rockwell! Then, at the end of the show, the Museum purchased the painting for its permanent collection! That was an artistic jackpot for me!
